Worms in the rain

Have you ever noticed that when it rains, the worms come up to the surface? Do you know why? They do that because they drown in the water that goes underwater. But, if they stay at the surface too long they will dry and die.

What does a worm prefer?

Light or dark?
Dark, because in the dark soil is more fresh and humid.
Wet or dry?
Neither, they need at least 70% of humidity.
On top of soil or underground?
Underground, because the light hurts them. Also because it is fresh in the soil.
Alkaline or acid soil?
Alkaline, because it is a soil with a lot of minerals.
Hot or cold?
Neither, it should be warm.
